Who's this course for?

This IP training course is designed for anyone who wants to get started with patent search, to understand the basics, and who wishes to use patent search to enhance innovation or R&D processes and decisions.

This course will show you how to construct patent search queries with confidence.

Why take this course?

Patents contain a wealth of information that can enhance the success of any research project. However, patent information is notoriously tricky to navigate and specific approaches and methodologies are required to get the best out of a patent search.

What you'll achieve

By the end of this course, you will be able to identify the seven different types of patent search that are undertaken and how they relate to business questions. You will understand which data fields should be included for those different searches, how Boolean logic is used to define technologies, and why it’s necessary to refine results using data such as classification codes, dates, jurisdictions and other information.

The course requires no previous knowledge and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
